The Holiday of Love
Can you believe that Valentine’s Day is just one month away? With the hustle and bustle of the Christmas and New Year festivities been and gone it’s now time to for you to focus all your energy on the holiday of love.
A Brief History of Valentine’s Day
The history of Valentine’s Day dates all the way back to the third century. During the Roman empire, Emperor Claudius II came to the conclusion that men who were single made much better fighters. Therefore he decided to outlaw marriage for young men. A young priest by the name of Valentine was appalled by this injustice and decided to defy the emperor by continuing to marry young lovers in secret ceremonies. However, the emperor found out about this and sentenced Valentine to death.
During Valentine’s time in prison, he fell in love with the jailer’s daughter, who visited the priest in jail shortly before he was put to death. Valentine sent a letter to the girl and signed it “from your Valentine.”
